Samsung r810c Finesse Review – Straight Talk

Author The Samsung Finesse r810c was released for Straight Talk Wireless in December, 2009, and created a LOT of buzz among prepaid phone users. At first glance, the r810c appears to be everything prepaid users have been dreaming of: it includes a large touch screen, high-speed EVDO data connection, music player, 2.0 mp camera, camcorder, bluetooth, and many other features.
To top it all off, this phone is now available on Straight Talk’s inexpensive, no-contract plans. At $45 per month, the unlimited calling, text, and data plan is pretty appealing, especially when that data is coming over a 3G connection. For people who, like me, are geeky enough to lust after the iPhone but “frugal” enough to stick to prepaid, this might be the perfect solution.
In fact, I couldn’t resist. After reading a few of the initial reviews of the Finesse from other Straight Talk users, I bit the bullet and purchased my own Samsung r810c, along with a month of unlimited service.
I’ve just received the phone, and I’m so enamored with the device I set up a separate Samsung r810c website to publish my review of the phone and share tips and tricks with other Straight Talk users. As I gain more experience with the Finesse, I’ll be putting up a very detailed review of the phone. I’ll also do my best to answer any questions that people might have if I happen to miss important information in my review.
As I said above, I’ve only had the phone a few days, so I haven’t used it enough to really test it out. Here’s what I can tell you so far, though – the voice quality seems adequate, but not fantastic. I would say it’s on par with the Samsung r451c, another Straight Talk phone released earlier this fall, but not quite as good as the LG 290c and 220c, also recent models on Straight Talk.
What is beyond compare, though, is the touch screen and EVDO browser. The touch screen definitely takes some getting used to, but I think I’ll grow to like it. It’s similar to an iPhone or iPod touch as far as how the touch screen works, but just a little different in sensitivity.
One thing worth noting here is that, unlike the aforementioned Apple products, the Finesse lacks “multi-touch” functionality. This means that the screen can sense only one “touch” at time, thus preventing use of Apple’s popular pinch-to-zoom operation. As an iPod touch user, I find that a little disappointing. Beyond that disappointment, though, I like the touch screen. This is the first touch-screen phone I’ve used. It’s nice to use, and even nicer to look at it
One thing that I really like is the EVDO internet access. I’ve had several phones now with internet access, but used them all very little because they were so slow. That is not the case with the r810c’s 3G data. It’s certainly not as fast as broadband internet at your home, but it’s fast enough that I’d be happy to use it to pass time while waiting in a waiting room or as a passenger in a vehicle.
Just as a point of reference, I was able to load the CNN website in about a minute, complete with a dozen pictures. On previous prepaid phones, if it loaded at all it would have taken several minutes to load a site like CNN, and that wouldn’t have included any pictures at all.
To check my email from my Yahoo! email account, it took me about 3 minutes to load the site, enter my password, and download my messages. I then reset the home page to yahoo mail, and saved my login info automatically. Now I can get to my new messages in about 45 seconds.
iPhone – How To Set Up Your Voice Mail on the iPhone
Have you just bought a new iPhone and are having a hard time getting the voice mail set up? You may have spent hours on the phone with customer service and gotten nowhere. Here, you will find the help you need to get your voice mail set up easily.
The first thing is not to put the SIM card from your old phone into your iPhone. Everything else will work but you voice mail and visual mail will likely not work. If you go to an AT&T store, you can get a new SIM put in your phone and help with getting everything from your old SIM card transferred to it.
Now you are ready for the next step. Call customer service at AT&T (the exclusive iPhone service provider in the US) and tell the representative that you need to setup voice mail. Be sure to tell him or her to check to make sure the forwarding feature to forward calls to your voice mail is turned on. This is something that is often overlooked by customer service representatives. Once this is done, you are ready to actually setup voice mail.
Before you begin, it is a good idea to know what password you want to use. Might write down what you want to record as your outgoing message, too. Doing this will save time and make the process to setup voice mail go smoother.
Your password should be between 6 and 15 characters. Make sure it is something you can remember but others will find impossible to guess. Now you tap the voice mail icon on your iPhone. You will be asked to create a password at this point. Enter the password you have created and then you will be asked to record a greeting. You will have the option of using a default iPhone voice mail greeting that will include your phone number or you can record your own. You can change your greeting at any time by tapping voice mail, greeting, custom and then record. Do not forget to save your greeting once you are satisfied with it.
Students at Penn state who subscribe to Penn iPhone can log in to My iPhone and setup voice mail for their iPhones. PennKey authentication will be required. Once on the home page, look for Features and Voice Mail and go to that page. Here, you will put in the password you have created. You can change this password at any time by logging in on My iPhone or through the voice mail icon on your phone. After you have entered your password, re-enter it is the field, Confirm Password. After up press the submit button, your account will be updated to include it.
To record your greeting, press the ‘messages’ button, it will be to the right of the keypad. Press ’0′ to bring up the mailbox options. From there, you will be prompted to choose the type of greeting you want, such as busy, unavailable and name. Then you will get a prompt from the system to record your greeting. When you are finished, choose accept, listen and, if you desire, re-record. When you are satisfied with your greeting, press * or # to go back to the menu or exit.
Free Metro PCS Ringtones
Metro PCS was a service provider that was knows as a flat rate carrier for subscribers roaming in a limited area. Now it has introduced Travel Talk, an add-on to its plans that allows subscribers to roam in any US metro area. If the subscriber travels to another Metro PCS city, there is no additional charge for the calls; otherwise, calls cost between 49 and 79 cents per minute. MetroPCS has a limited service and hence this reflects on their other services provided to their customers.
In the ringtone department, Metro PCS does provide some exciting prospects and options. Their recently introduced sprint PCS Ringtones, PNG images, .MID/. QCP/. MMF/. PMD ringtones are proving to be very popular among subscribers. They have a great treasure trove of ringtones to choose from. Right from the 80′s, alternative, classic rock, Christian, country, Latin pop, national anthems, pop, patriotic, jazz, hip hop, reggae, punk, rock, metal, RNB, salsa, sports, and world music. The subscribers to the Metro PCS mobile service can just log on their official Web site, sign up and get regular updates on the new ringtones available.
Frequently, the ringtone code numbers are sent to the subscribers via text messages. Here is a case of a service provider trying to break the area barrier with the use of ringtones. The only problem with the Metro PCS service is that the use may have to ensure whether the ringtone is compatible with the Metro PCs handset or not. As the awareness levels are not that great, the Metro PCS subscribers will have to shoulder the burden of ensuring the compatibility of the ringtones. But if the ringtones are for free, most people do not mind doing a little bit of extra work.
Walmart Tracfone Straight Talk – Prepaid Phone Plans Released
Walmart changes the prepaid phone game by getting in on the business. Will big changes really happen now that the big name retailer is in the business of prepaid cell phones and is actively pushing the TracFone Straight Talk plans as its very own set of prepaid plans?
In all seriousness, this move by Walmart may really change the industry. One thing it will immediately do is make TracFone’s Straight Talk prepaid plan the winner in what many have been calling the prepaid price way. Straight Talk is now going to win. Sure, other phone companies like Boost Mobile (which does have a very attractive prepaid plan), MetroPCS, and Cricket will be able to get in on the action since they have the backing of other retailers like Best Buy and Target, but Walmart has some serious clout behind it.
The huge retail store is marketing Straight Talk as its own plan and will be sure to make a lot of sales. That’s just what happens when a industry leader decides to push a product to its shoppers. In no way is this a bad thing, whatever your opinion of Walmart is, because TracFone’s cheap prepaid cell phone plans are some of the best in the business in terms of value.
Let’s put it this way: consumers who go with Straight Talk get good value. Some may prefer the Boost Mobile service or that of Cricket wireless (depending on where they are in the country), but Straight Talk’s service plans provide a lot for the amount of payment due each month. And in the long run, they will save many customers money over some of the other prepaid wireless providers. The unlimited plan will cover most anyone’s needs, and at $45 a month, it’s a value play.
Walmart has obviously done the research and decided to put its money on TracFone’s horse. The plans from Straight Talk seem to fit pretty much any user. For those people looking for a cell phone that will allow them to talk as much as they want, as well as use unlimited text messages and web browsing, then the Straight Talk unlimited prepaid plan may be a great option. Of course, there are other Unlimited plans like the ones from Boost Mobile and Cricket, so if you want to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal out there, cross reference the different plans.
There is a cheaper TracFone prepaid plan as well. It costs $30 and comes with 1,000 minutes of talk time, 1,000 text messages, 30 mb of web browsing, and unlimited 411 (information) call. If you use less than 1,000 text messages and less than 1,000 minutes of talk time per month and pay over thirty dollars, then this plan may be worth looking into. There are comparable plans from other wireless providers in the prepaid realm, but there are a few people in the business who claim that this plan may be one of the best in the business. It is truly an elite plan but very affordable.
When you hear talk of a “prepaid price war” or things like that, it’s important to remember that there really is no winner and no loser. The only thing that matters is that you get a prepaid plan that works for your situation. It makes no sense to purchase a plan that doesn’t fit into your mobile usage habits because it won’t work for you. If you do the research and read about the available plans, you will be able to weigh the pros and cons of each plan while comparing what they offer to your monthly needs.
